In 1979, the Nesbitt Memorial Library opened and absorbed the Mansfield Memorial Library collection. Later, the estate of Miss Nesbitt made a plan for a large expansion. The library offers many resources and benefits for Columbus locals. Grab a good read and so much more at Nesbitt Memorial Library.

When to Go

Locals can head to the library at 529 Washington Street, Columbus, TX, six days a week for great books and vital resources. On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, you can visit between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Then, on Tuesday and Thursday, you can stop by between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Finally, the library is open for limited hours on Saturdays, between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Of course, the library closes for several holidays throughout the year.

A Special Collection

At the request of Lee Quinn Nesbitt, the library’s namesake, there is a unique collection. Library goers can access more than 3,000 photos and images related to Colorado County. In addition, there are over 4,000 books on local and Texas history there. More than 2,000 of those books are available for patrons to check out. You can also find early Colorado County public records, including military history.

Because the library holds so many records, the Nesbitt is a great resource for people looking into genealogy. You can trace your roots through the cemetery, census, and church records.
